Have no idea how many people have already posted this picture or one similar, and haven’t even heard the song, but it doesn’t matter: I’m still trying to wrap my brain around Macca’s coolness here.

Received this yesterday, and excellent it is. “Mladic” is probably the heaviest piece they”ve ever done. Good parts of it, however, do recall that unreleased “Albanian” thing most GYBE fans know about, so it’s not exactly all new to me. I guess it’s hard to fault a band for copying a track that’s never even been officially released, but I suppose that’s what I’m doing, if only a little bit.

Santa Cruz, CA tech death amalgam Brain Drill. Just discovered their 2010 record, Quantum Catastrophe, very heavy, very brutal, and the title track is the longest tech death piece I’ve ever heard at over 16 minutes. Recommended.

Love and Rockets, does anyone still listen to them? “Haunted When the Minutes Drag” sequenced through on Historia during lunch today, the long 8:04 album version, and maybe the shorter edited version that was used in that movie I can’t think of is better, because “Haunted” is not *quite* good enough to be an 8-minute song, but this was a good band, with a reasonably original sound, who were definitely better than you might have thought from just looking at them. I saw them at the Cameo in ‘89 or ‘90 touring off Earth-Sun-Moon with its incredible “Mirror People” single, and though I remember very little of their show ‘coz opening act Janes Addiction blew me away so thoroughly, I still have no regrets about being enough of a fan to go, and still miss the sleeveless black T I picked up that night, darn it.

Keith Jarrett, in my library because of his spooky Hymns/Spheres, which I was turned on to because it contains the only music not by T-Dream in Friedkin’s brilliant Sorceror.

In the record, which has never been reissued in its entirety on CD, the jazz pianist goes all E Power Biggs with it, improvising with no backing musicians for 80 some-odd minutes on a massive pipe organ at the Benedictine Abbey in Ottobeuren, Germany.

You gotta be in the mood, but listen: you gotta be in the mood for Sunn O))), too.
